"In the Beginning God Created
the Heaven and the Earth"
In the sequence of events as set forth in the scripture, God first created the earth, and the earth was without form, and void. He then separated the light from the darkness, and the waters from the land. Then came the creation of vegetation of all kinds, giving the beauty of trees and grass, flowers and shrubs. Then followed the creation of animal life in the sea and upon the land. Having looked over all of this, He declared it to be good. He then created man in His own likeness and image. Then as His final creation, the crowning of His glorious work, He created woman.

When we sing the song “I Am a Child of God,” the lyrics penetrate our hearts. Pondering this truth—that we are children of heavenly parents—fills us with a sense of origin, purpose, and destiny. It is good to remember that you are always a child of God. This knowledge will carry you through the most difficult times in your life and will inspire you to accomplish remarkable things. However, it is also important to remember that being a [son or] daughter of eternal parents is not a distinction you earned or you will ever lose. You will always and forever remain a [son or] daughter of God.

The Creator has entrusted the earth’s resources and all forms of life to our care, but He retains full ownership...All that is on the earth belongs to God, including our families, our physical bodies, and even our very lives.…the care of the earth and of our natural environment is a sacred responsibility entrusted to us by God, which should fill us with a deep sense of duty and humility. It is also an integral component of our discipleship…We participate in the work of creation whenever we cultivate the earth or add our own constructions to this world—as long as we show respect for God’s creations.

I know that one of Satan’s cunning methods of undermining the work of the Lord is to attack the sacred institutions of marriage and the family…The Lord declared that marriage is the legal wedding of one man and one woman...Worldly trends to define marriage in some other way would sadly serve to destroy the institution of marriage. Such schemes are contrary to the plan of God...Scripture further reaffirms that “the man [is not] without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.” Marriage is both a commandment and an exalting principle of the gospel. Because it is ordained of God, the intimate physical expressions of married love are sacred.

What has Jesus Christ done for each of us? He has done everything that is essential for our journey through mortality toward the destiny outlined in the plan of our Heavenly Father…Through the teachings of His prophets and through His personal ministry, Jesus taught us the plan of salvation. This plan includes the Creation, the purpose of life, the necessity of opposition, and the gift of agency…Under the plan of our Heavenly Father, He “created the heavens and the earth” so that each of us could have the mortal experience necessary to seek our divine destiny…Jesus Christ did all of this because He loves all of the children of God. Love is the motivation for it all, and it was so from the very beginning.

New Beginnings through Jesus Christ
Beginning with the Creation of the world, one day was set apart from all others. “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it.” Even God rested from His labors on this day, and He expects His children to do the same. To the children of Israel, He delivered the commandment: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God… Wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”... It is remarkable that even through the dark periods of apostasy, this pattern of Sabbath day worship and the sacrament continued to be practiced in many forms.
