Moses 8:19-24

A prophet is someone God has personally prepared, called, corrected, inspired, rebuked, sanctified, and sustained. That is why we are never spiritually at risk in following prophetic counsel…The doctrine and principles that we must follow to survive spiritually and endure physically are found in the words of a living prophet...President Russell M. Nelson has testified that “God’s long-established pattern of teaching His children through prophets assures us that He will bless each prophet and that He will bless those who heed prophetic counsel.” So the key is to follow the living prophet.

Why do we need prophets?

Genesis 6:5-7

We are people of peace. We are followers of the Christ, who was and is the Prince of Peace…On the Larry King television broadcast...I was asked what I think of those who, in the name of their religion, carry out such infamous activities. I replied: “Religion offers no shield for wickedness, for evil, for those kinds of things. The God in whom I believe does not foster this kind of action. He is a God of mercy. He is a God of love. He is a God of peace and reassurance, and I look to Him in times such as this as a comfort and a source of strength.”

As we obey the Lord in faith, He will bless and protect us

Genesis 6:8-13

Is not today much like Noah’s day when the population of the earth was wiped out in the flood and but eight righteous souls were spared? Some doubt that there was a flood, but by modern revelation we know that it did take place...The scriptures say that many will not listen. But they also say that true believers in the Lord will follow his servants and give ear to their warning voices. God will protect the faithful regardless of all the tribulations that will come upon the wicked. Did he not save Noah’s family from the Flood?

Genesis 6:17-22

Genesis 7:23

Noah heeded God’s command to build an ark, that he and his family might be spared destruction. He followed God’s instructions to gather into the ark two of every living creature, that they also might be saved from the floodwaters... Noah had the unwavering faith to follow God’s commandments. May we ever do likewise. May we remember that the wisdom of God ofttimes appears as foolishness to men, but the greatest lesson we can learn in mortality is that when God speaks and we obey, we will always be right.

Genesis 9:8-17

A covenant is a commitment to fulfill certain responsibilities… Distinctive clothing or name tags are intended to signify that the wearer is under covenant...There is no magic in their...clothing or symbols, only a needed reminder of the special responsibilities the wearers have assumed…[R]evelation directs that the Church “meet together often to partake of bread and wine [water] in the remembrance of the Lord Jesus.”…Persons who have been endowed in a temple are responsible to wear a temple garment...It reminds endowed members of the sacred covenants they have made and the blessings they have been promised in the holy temple.

Following Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven

 Genesis 11:1-9

Many who would never consider active rebellion may still oppose the will and word of God by pursuing their own path without regard to divine direction...when it comes to matters of salvation and eternal life, our theme song ought to be “I did it God’s way,” because truly there is no other way....There is no “my way” if we are to follow Christ’s example. Trying to find a different course to heaven is like the futility of working on the Tower of Babel rather than looking to Christ and His salvation… May we bury—very, very deep—any element of rebellion against God in our lives and replace it with a willing heart and a willing mind.
