“If the Lord Be God, Follow Him”
All the things that Christ did for our salvation are unique. He was able to perform His redeeming work in approximately three years of ministry… [one] purpose was to build the kingdom by serving others. This was a different type of leadership. Service is a characteristic of His followers—a divine quality…In the Church there are tens of thousands of members who selflessly serve in more than 170 nations in a great diversity of tongues and languages. They give unselfish service through leadership, teaching, and care of others, without salary or material reward, without applause or worldly recognition.

The Lord instructed the prophet Elijah to go to Zarephath, where he would find a widow woman whom God had commanded to sustain him... Imagine for a moment the difficulty of what the prophet was asking a starving mother to do. Certainly, God Himself could have provided food for His faithful servant. But, acting in the name of the Lord, Elijah did as directed, which was to ask a beloved daughter of God to sacrifice that which she had in order to sustain the prophet.
But Elijah also promised a blessing for obedience... The Lord gave the widow the opportunity to choose to believe and obey the words of the prophet.

Faith requires an attitude of exact obedience, even in the small, simple things...As patterns of obedience develop, the specific blessings associated with obedience are realized and belief emerges...Faith is a gift from God, and one possessed of it can receive enormous spiritual power…Faith is a spiritual gift from God that comes through the Holy Ghost. It requires a correct understanding and knowledge of Jesus Christ...Obedience to these principles develops complete trust in Him and His ordained servants and assurance of His promised blessings.

We live in a world with many voices seeking our attention. With all the breaking news, tweets, blogs, podcasts, and compelling advice from Alexa, Siri, and others, we can find it difficult to know which voices to trust. Sometimes... we “halt … between two opinions,” choosing to be “neither cold nor hot.”...If we are not careful, the wrong voices can draw us away from the gospel center to places where faith is difficult to sustain, and we find little more than emptiness, bitterness, and dissatisfaction... Will we follow the unreliable voices advocated by the world, or will we do the work required to allow our Father’s voice to guide us in our decisions and protect us from danger?

Today Elijah might say: Either God, our Heavenly Father, exists, or He does not, but if He exists, worship Him. Either Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the resurrected Redeemer of mankind, or He is not, but if He is, follow Him.
…some have not yet fully received the gospel of Jesus Christ into their lives…They are not yet centered in Christ. They are selective about the doctrines and commandments they will follow and where and when they will serve in the Church...Most of us find ourselves at this moment on a continuum between a socially motivated participation in gospel rituals on the one hand and a fully developed, Christlike commitment to the will of God on the other.
- President D. Todd Christofferson, Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ
I am occasionally asked by those not of our faith why it is that our Church grows so rapidly, in both membership and activity, while other churches are reportedly declining in both. The answer to that question is simply a still, small voice and then a throbbing heart. In this busy, tumultuous, and noisy world, it is not like a wind, it is not like a fire, it is not like an earthquake; but it is a still, small, but a very discernible voice, and it causes a throbbing heart...It is a still, small voice and a throbbing heart that motivates one to joyfully keep God’s commandments and share the burdens of those less fortunate. Yes, there is power in a still, small voice and a throbbing heart.
