I can defend the truth by sharing my testimony

The Savior will teach us how to respond to those who criticize His Church

The Savior will teach us how to respond to those who criticize His Church

D&C 71:1-6

Although it may not be easy, there is always a way to do the right thing. While talking with a group of friends at school, a young woman felt her heart drop when the conversation turned to criticizing the standards of the Church. She realized she couldn’t stay silent-she had to do something. Respectfully, she spoke of the love of Heavenly Father and how the commandments He set are to bless and protect His children. It would have been much easier for her to do nothing...If the restored Church of Jesus Christ is going to come out of obscurity, we must come out of obscurity…

D&C 71:7-10

How does a peacemaker calm and cool the fiery darts? Certainly not by shrinking before those who disparage us. Rather, we remain confident in our faith, sharing our beliefs with conviction but always void of anger or malice…What gives us the inner strength to cool, calm, and quench the fiery darts aimed toward the truths we love? The strength comes from our faith in Jesus Christ and our faith in His words.

D&C 72:2-5, 9-12

There are times in the lives of all of us when we must reach out to our bishop or his counselors for help...Always we benefit from their stalwart examples...A bishop (or branch president) has many duties…the offices of bishop and branch president and counselors are sacred in this Church. The men who hold those offices are respected by the Lord, inspired by His Spirit, and given the powers of discernment necessary to their office. We honor and love them, and we show this by our consideration for them.

D&C 73:1-5

If Christ had my opportunities, what would He do?…Each one of us can make a difference in someone’s life, even his or her eternal life, but we must act; we must do; we must labor diligently. Perhaps you have received an impression to invite someone to return to church or to hear the message of the restored gospel for the first time. Go ahead, follow that impression.

“Labor with your might... proclaiming the truth.”

I have many opportunities to share the Savior’s gospel

“Labor with your might... proclaiming the truth.”

D&C 75:2-5

[A]n assignment to labor in a specific place is essential and important but secondary to a call to the work… “Therefore, declare the things which ye have heard, and verily believe, and know to be true.”…each of you is a missionary now. All around you, every day, are friends and neighbors “who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it.” ...You need not and should not wait for your official call to become anxiously engaged in missionary work.

I can give my best effort to the Lord

“Labor with your might... proclaiming the truth.”

D&C 75:10-11, 16, 18-21

Often we are placed in situations that will cause us to stretch. We may not feel up to the task. We may look at those we serve with and feel that we will never measure up… Regardless of how insignificant our efforts may seem, if we are sincere, the Savior will use us to accomplish His work. If we simply do the best we can and trust Him to make up the difference, we can become part of the miracles that surround us...President Russell M. Nelson teaches us, “The Lord loves effort.”
